A 75-year old woman was knocked down and killed by a heavy goods vehicle as she crossed a crowded junction in Kwun Tong this afternoon (17 March).

The woman, Ms Ng, was crossing Shung Shun Street at the junction of Lei Yue Mun Path when she was knocked down by the truck, driven by 42-year-old Mr Lam. Sustaining severe injuries, Ng was rushed unconscious to United Christian Hospital, and was certified dead just 40 minutes later.

Lam was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is under way. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2305 7500 or 2305 7570.

Ng is the 13th pedestrian to succumb to Hong Kong’s road carnage in 2020; pedestrians have accounted for 65% of all traffic deaths this year.
