Cars regularly block the bus and taxi stops on Hoi Wang Road, where a woman fell to her death while alighting a minibus

A woman has died today (24 April) after earlier falling from a minibus which moved off as she was trying to disembark.

78-year-old Ms. Kwok fell out of the Mong Kok-bound minibus at 8 Hoi Wang Road yesterday lunchtime. “The minibus was suspected to have moved forward when the woman was alighting the vehicle,” said police, who suspect the woman lost her balance and fell through the open door.

Kwok suffered head injuries and was taken unconscious to Kwong Wah Hospital in Yau Ma Tei, where she died at 10.43 this morning.

The driver, 71-year-old Mr. Cheung, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and has since been released on bail. Cheung passed a breathalyser test.

According to police, 32 people died in 31 road accidents in the first quarter of 2020. Last year, there were 20,218 casualties on Hong Kong’s roads, an average of 55 per day.
