ELDERLY COUPLE, 81 AND 88, KNOCKED DOWN BY TAXI DRIVER IN TSING YI, BOTH CRITICAL

The taxi which hit an elderly couple in Tsing Yi this morning: an 81-year-old woman remains in serious condition, while her 88-year-old husband is stable

An 81-year-old woman and her 88-year-old husband are both in critical condition after they were hit by a taxi in Tsing Yi while out for a walk Saturday morning.

Taxi driver Mr Chung, 75, was driving his taxi east on Chung Mei road at 6:50am when he struck the couple, Mr Ip and Ms Chiu. Chiu was seriously hurt with head and abdomen injuries and taken unconscious to Princess Margaret Hospital, while her husband suffered hand and foot injuries and was taken conscious to the same hospital.

Both are in critical condition ac cording to the latest update Sunday morning.

Bloodstains, a torn-off shoe and a broken watch littered the scene in front of the damaged taxi, which bore an advert for the upcoming LegCo elections.

Police arrested Chung on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm.
