TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER FATAL CHOI HUNG PEDESTRIAN CRASH

Police arrested a 65-year-old taxi driver after he struck and killed a 73-year-old woman in Choi Hung

Police have arrested a 65-year-old taxi driver for dangerous driving following a fatal crash on a Kwun Tong Road sliproad last night.

According to police, driver Mr Lee was driving westbound on Kwun Tong Road at 10:11pm when, approaching the Choi Hung interchange slip road, he struck a 73-year-old woman, Ms Au.

The force of the impact caused significant damage to the taxi hood and sent the victim flying about five metres, knocking her from her shoes. Ambulance crews rushed unconscious Au to Kwong Wah Hospital with serious leg injuries. Au died from her injuries at 11:30pm.

Police detained driver Lee for further enquiries.

The taxi involved, licence plate VE 6354, features in no less than three “vigilante” videos on local channel PK Driving, including one from July 2021 where the cab darts across the road, narrowly missing a serious crash (below).
