Police say they have made no arrests after a van driver swerved into an elderly woman who was collecting cardboard along the road in Chai Wan yesterday evening.
Ms Wong, 72, was pushing her recycling trolley westbound on Sui Sai Wan Road at 6:11pm when a black van driven eastbound by Mr Chan, 37, smashed into her at some apparent speed.
Wong and her trolley were flung onto the pavement, narrowly avoiding serious injury on the railings.
The driver stopped around 10 metres after the collision and then started up again and parked further down the street before alighting to check on the victim.
Police say Wong was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, conscious, with injuries to her ankles, knees and shoulder.
The driver passed an alcohol test and was free to leave.
Dashcam channel fans flooded a video of the incident with comments on the driver’s performance.
“You are obviously playing with your phone,” speculated one.
“Car boxer Stallone!” said another, referencing the van’s licence plate “ROCKY III”.
517 elderly pedestrians were struck by vehicles in 2023: 84 were seriously injured while 29 died.
