DRIVER DIES IN ROUNDABOUT CRASH

Substation and railings on Wai Yip Road

Scene of the crash: as seen in many other cases lately, safety railings did not prevent the car smashing across the sidewalk

A driver has died after his car spun out of control and smashed through railings into a substation wall on Wai Yip Street, near Kwun Tong Public Pier.

The 61-year-old man was found trapped unconscious inside the white Mercedes sedan by fireman – with no obvious injury, he was rushed, still unconscious, to United Christian Hospital and was certified dead at 1:29am, less than an hour after the smash.

Police said they are not sure whether the man’s death was caused by the accident or other causes and will await results of an autopsy before confirming. Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is underway. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2305 7500 or 2305 7606.
