A pedestrian is dead after being struck by an out-of-control private car in Tuen Mun at 8:39 this morning (28 March).
According to police, the car driver, a 47-year old woman, lost control while driving along Tai Fong Street, near Tai Hing Station. Her vehicle hit the 55-year old male pedestrian and then struck a light rail train travelling towards the town centre. The car driver was injured in the crash, while the pedestrian was rushed to hospital unconscious, and declared dead at 9:56am.Â
Police arrested the car driver for dangerous driving causing death. She was released on bail and must report back to the police in late April.
Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 3800.
Fourteen pedestrians have been killed on the roads this year, around 65% of all traffic deaths.
