PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN SAI KUNG SMASH

A driver knocked down and killed a 76-year-old man who was crossing a Sai Kung road early this morning (5 June).

The victim, Mr Liu, was crossing Wai Man Road near the Sai Kung Swimming Pool at around 6.20am when he was struck by a car, driven by 26-year-old Mr Yuen. Ambulance crews rushed Liu, unconscious and with serious head injuries, to Tseung Kwan O Hospital. He was certified dead at 7.49am.

Police arrested Yuen for dangerous driving causing death, and later released him on bail. Yuen is required to report to back to the police in mid-July.

The Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is investigating the accident: witnesses or those with information should contact the investigating officers on 2305 7500 or 2305 7571.

Last year, 636 pedestrians were killed or seriously injured on Hong Kong’s roads. Half of those were aged 60 or over.
