A van driver struck and killed a cyclist who was crossing lanes in Tseung Kwan O yesterday (12 June).
At 12.12pm, the cyclist, Mr Tsoi, aged 88, was cycling across Po Fung Road at the junction of Yan King Road. The van, travelling eastbound along Po Fung Road, struck him and knocked him unconscious. Ambulance crews rushed Tsoi to hospital with severe head, hand and leg injuries, and he was declared dead at 3.13pm.
Police arrested the van driver, Mr Li, for dangerous driving causing death, and later released him on bail. Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East is underway. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers at 2305 7500.
There have been 48 fatal traffic accidents in the first five months of 2020. Last year, seven cyclists lost their lives on Hong Kong’s roads.
