A 26-year-old cyclist reportedly lost control of her bicycle at the bottom of a hill in Ma On Shan this afternoon, ramming into barriers and sustaining a serious head injury from which she did not recover. The victim, Ms Cheung, was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital, unconscious, and certified dead at 4.30pm.

Cheung was riding down A Kung Kok Shan Road, which is popular with cyclists for its challenging climb and relatively traffic-free environment.

A police source says an investigation is in progress and no other information can be shared. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 1300 or 3661 1346.

Hong Kong’s roads have claimed the lives of 102 cyclists in the last 10 years. There were seven fatalities last year, aged from 34 to 82.
