WOMAN KILLED BY BUS OUTSIDE CITYPLAZA

According to police, this KMB bus struck and killed 84-year-old Ms Chong outside Cityplaza on Monday

A woman was killed after being knocked down by a bus as she crossed a road in Tai Koo on Monday.

Police say Ms Chong, 84, was struck by the KMB bus, driven by Mr Leung, 51, on Taikoo Wan Road between CityPlaza and Cityplaza Four, around 11.05am. Chong suffered head injuries after she was hit by the bus, and taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where she died some 12 hours later.

Police arrested Leung at the scene for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, and later released him on bail. According to police, Leung had 31 years’ driving experience and had been with KMB for 13 years with no prior driving convictions. They appeal for witnesses – anyone with information should call Hong Kong Island investigators on 3660 6838 or 3600 6800.

There were 58 deaths and 736 serious injuries on Hong Kong’s roads in the first six months of 2020. The elderly are particularly vulnerable – last week, two elderly women died in two separate minibus accidents on the same day.
