DRIVER CANNONBALLS THE WRONG WAY THROUGH TATE’S CAIRN TUNNEL

Night-shift drivers had a lucky escape when a car came bolting through Tate’s Cairn Tunnel the wrong way early Saturday morning. Taxi dashcam footage shows the car ricocheting along the tunnel walls after swerving to avoid an oncoming truck.

Police say they are investigating and, as at Sunday morning (29 November), have made no arrests. Nobody was injured during the drama, according to police.

Last year actor Ng Kai-ming turned himself and his driver into police after driving the wrong way through the then-new Central-Wan Chai Bypass. The driver, Mr Fung, was charged with one count of dangerous driving.

In 2018 there were 395 accidents in tunnel areas, with three deaths. But the accident rate in tunnels was less than third of the city’s average.
