A woman collecting cardboard was run down and killed on a private housing estate in Sha Tin this morning

Police arrested a truck driver for dangerous driving causing death this morning, after his truck reportedly knocked over and killed an 86-year-old woman in Sha Tin.

The woman’s death happened outside Herring Gull House on Sha Kok Estate, a private housing estate where the victim, Ms Wong, was using a trolley to collect cardboard for recycling. Footage of the accident’s aftermath showed only a police tent over the woman’s body, her cardboard scattered across the road.

According to police, truck driver Mr Siu, 38, had driven over the woman, who was certified dead at the scene. Siu is still being detained according to police this evening.

An 89-year-old woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver only a few weeks ago in Tuen Mun, while in Hung Hom an 85-year-old woman was killed just a few weeks before that, making this a deadly start to 2021 for elderly pedestrians.
