24 INJURED AS PACKED SCHOOL BUS HURTLES FROM ROAD TO CYCLE TRACK

A school bus with 55 pupils aboard careened through a Sha Tin junction at high speed this afternoon, apparently out of control and injuring 24 people in the resulting crash.

Police say eight boys and 15 girls aged two to 13, were injured in the smash, which saw the bus crash through the junction, into a private car and a truck and come to rest on the adjacent cycle track.

None of the pupils were seriously injured in the crash.

Driver Mr Chan, 57, was trapped in the bus and freed by fire crews. Police arrested him for dangerous driving causing injury, after which he was sent to Price of Wales Hospital for back injuries.

Police are investigating whether the driver had been in the wrong lane and sped through the junction from a right-turn only lane. Investigations continue.
