Police arrested a taxi driver this morning after a fatal crash involving an elderly pedestrian at Tai Wo station.
According to police, 59-year-old Mr Wong was driving a taxi along Po Nga Road at 9.14am when he struck and knocked down 81-year-old Mr Lo, who was crossing the road.
Lo was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital unconscious and with severe head injuries. He died at 11.53am.
Police could not give a precise location of the deadly incident nor confirm whether or not Lo was using the pelican crossing. They say the taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.
In 2019, there were 2,905 pedestrians killed or injured on the roads. Almost three-quarters of deaths involved victims aged 60 or over.
