Police arrested a Tesla driver after a fatal smash in Shek O killed a 41-year-old motorcyclist last night.
According to police, Mr Cheung was riding a motorcycle along Tai Tam Road towards Chai Wan at 8:14pm when, about half a kilometre from the roundabout junction with Shek O Road, he collided with a Tesla coming in the opposite direction. That car was driven by 61-year old British man, first name James.
Cheung suffered severe chest and leg injuries and was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital unconcscious. He was prounounced dead just 45 minutes after the crash.
Photos from the scene showed the Tesla on the wrong side of the carriageway after the smash, but police would not speculate on the cause of the crash. Driver James was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.
When asked for further details of the driver, such as his surname, police said it is their “usual practice not to divulge surnames of foreigners”.
There have been 84 deaths on Hong Kong’s roads in the first 10 months of 2021.
