A 19-year-old rider was flung off his bike on a sharp bend on the killer Bride’s Pool Road last night
Hong Kong’s notorious illegal racing circuit has claimed another life, with a 19-year-old motorcycle rider thrown off his bike and killed in a crash last night.
According to reports, Mr Ip was riding a Kawasaki Ninja along Bride’s Pool Road towards Tai Po at 10:38pm when he was thrown off his bike at a sharp bend ahead of the Chung Mei barbecue pits. The bike continued some 80 metres while Ip was flung down a slope.
A friend had been waiting for Ip at the end of the racing stretch – when Ip didn’t arrive, the friend went back and found Ip unconscious on the slope.
Ip suffered serious leg injuries, according to police, and was rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, where he died at 11:32pm.
Bride’s Pool Road is known for its sweeping bends, tight curves and an almost complete lack of police speed enforcement. Last October, two men died in a fiery crash involving a Lamborghini, while there have been countless fatal crashes involving performance cars and motorbikes over the years.
