PEDESTRIAN KILLED YARDS FROM EARLIER TING KOK ROAD CRASH, DRIVER ARRESTED

Ting Kok Road has seen two dangerous crashes in two days, one of them fatal

A 68-year-old man has died crossing a road in Tai Po after a driver ran him over yesterday evening.

Mr Cheuk was crossing near 57 Ting Kok Road when he was struck by a private car, driven by 61-year-old Mr Lee.

Lee, 61, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

On Monday, another pedestrian was knocked down and badly injured just a few hundred yards away, at 3 Ting Kok Road, when a garbage truck driver hit him on a pedestrian crossing. Mr Tong, 67, was knocked unconscious in the crash but later regained consciousness

There were 65 traffic crashes yesterday, 27 of them with injuries.

Separately, police launched a “pedestrian education” campaign in Tai Po yesterday, summonsing 179 pedestrians for offences such as ignoring traffic signal and crossing the road within 15 metres of a pedestrian crossing.

“The Police will continue to take appropriate enforcement actions on a regular basis for various pedestrian or traffic offences to ensure the safety of road users,” said a police statement.
