Police have arrested a 74-year-old minibus driver after he ran over and killed an 85-year-old woman on a narrow Sheung Shui road.

Victim Ms Cheung was walking on Sui Wan Road at 11:20am on Friday morning (17 February) when she was struck by the minibus driven by Mr Tsang.

Suffering leg injuries but conscious, Cheung was rushed to North District Hospital. She was later transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital where she died at 2:48pm.

Driver Tsang was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

Ms Cheung’s village, around half a kilometre from the PLA San Wai Barracks, has a single narrow road with poor pedestrian facilities. The pedestrian path at the location is separated from the road by railings and is barely 30 cm wide, while the footpath switches sides every hundred metres or so with no crossing facilities. Parked cars and illegal building works also block the pavements where they exist.
