TRIATHLETE MAGISTRATE FIGHTING FOR LIFE AFTER DISNEY BUS CRASH

Victim Shirley Hung, 38, is an accomplished triathlete and lawyer

A Tuen Mun Deputy Magistrate was fighting for her life this morning after a smash with a Disney shuttle bus yesterday knocked her off her road bike and trapped her under the bus wheels.

Victim Shirley Hung, 38, an accomplished triathlete and lawyer, was cycling along Magic Road at 11:49am Saturday when she was hit by the shuttle bus, driven by Mr Hung, 62.

Fire crews rescued the victim who was trapped under the bus. The shuttle bus was seen straddled on the central divider with a pool of blood in the middle of the outside lane.

According to police, who interviewed the bus driver, the victim “lost balance” and fell under the bus.

But experts question this narrative. Martin Turner, chairman of the Hong Kong Cycling Alliance, says it’s very unlikely an accomplished triathlete “would just fall off”.

“Are we supposed to believe she just wobbled and tumbled under a passing bus?”

Turner also questioned the wisdom of taking the bus driver’s story while the victim lay unconscious in an ambulance.

“Who do we think described how she just jumped out of nowhere and it was ‘nothing to do with me’?” he said.

Police listed victim Hung’s condition as “serious” this morning. They say the bus driver tested negative for blood alcohol.

As a Deputy Magistrate, Ms Hung was due to hear four cases in Tuen Mun Magistrates court on Monday, including three smuggling cases and one of careless driving.
