MINIBUS DRIVER ARRESTED AS WOMAN KILLED AT PLAZA HOLLYWOOD CROSSING

Police crack jokes as they quiz a minibus driver (white jacket) over a fatal crash in Diamond Hill this morning

Police have arrested a 66-year-old minibus driver for dangerous driving after he knocked down and killed a 47-year-old woman who was crossing the road in Diamond Hill this morning.

According to police, Ms Chan was crossing the public transport terminus entrance outside Plaza Hollywood Mall on Lung Poon Street at 10:55 this morning.

Driver Mr Leung was driving the Number 19 minibus back into the terminus and struck Chan on the pedestrian crossing. The victim was dragged some four or five metres by the minibus before Leung stopped, according to eye-witnesses at the scene.

Ambulance crews rushed Chan to United Christian Hospital where she was certified dead at 12:55pm.

Police are appealing for witnesses or further information.

Pedestrians accounted for two-thirds of road deaths in Hong Kong in 2023, according to the latest Transport Department figures.
