  1. As a driver and pedestrian I always look both ways as I’m crossing or driving through traffic lights.
I know I have mistakenly driven off through a red light sometimes because a car next to me has green to turn left.
In 42 years of driving in Hong kong I have had a few close calls. Any one of them could have changed my, or other people’s lives.
Everyone has to be aware of their surroundings.
Footpaths in some areas are very busy and narrow, with cars, trucks and buses zooming past just inches from you. Islands in the middle of the road, where you wait while the pedestrian lights change, can very very frightning places to stand.
Driving was a lot easier 40 years ago. You could easily find a free 2 hour parking meter in most streets in TST !

    • Paul, the reason you cannot get a parking meter in TST is because they are ‘managed’ by “parking valets.”

UPS amazingly manages to bag the same parking meter Mon to Fri from 10.30am until around 6.30pm, basically operating an office on wheels. The drivers keep the engines running during their breaks. They can be seen chatting to the local “valet”.
Abuse of the meters has been reported to TD and the police. Officers respond that they have not observed the cozy relationship that is all so evident to Joe Public.
FedEx prefers to go the illegal parking route at multiple locations. If ticket is issued it is displayed all day as proof of ‘fee paid’. Calls to 999 that the two hour grace period has expired and the vehicles should be towed away are ignored.
