LUNG FUNG PHARMACY TRUCK KILLS 82-YR-OLD WOMAN IN MONG KOK

Police arrested a truck driver after he struck and killed an 82-year-old woman in Mong Kok yesterday

Tragedy struck Mong Kong yesterday afternoon when an 82-year-old woman was knocked down and killed by a Lung Fung pharmacy truck driver.

According to police, truck driver Mr Chan, 54, was driving along Sai Yee Street towards Argyle Street at 4:50pm when he reportedly ran over victim Ms Kwong who was crossing the road.

The heavy Lung Fung delivery truck, licence plate LFG1, dominated the street scene as fire crews rushed in vain to free Kwong. Ambulance crews rushed the victim to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but she died at 6:05pm, 75 minutes after the crash.

Tyre and blood marks on the road show the driver took around 12 metres to stop after colliding with the victim, dragging her under the wheels and along the road.

According to locals at the scene, the victim was a “cardboard granny” with a cardboard collection trolley stored in a nearby alleyway. She had been collecting water to dampen and squash cardboard before taking it to the recycling centre.

Her bucket of water and some personal effects could be seen strewn in the road.

Police arrested the driver for dangerous driving causing death.

Also yesterday a schoolboy was hospitalised after being run over a speeding private car on a school estate in Wong Tai Sin. A private car driver ran into the boy on a bend and then ran over him with both front and back wheels.

The 11-year-old was also taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he is being held for observation.

Police say they “investigated the local male driver suspected to be involved at the scene to learn what happened” but have made no arrests.

That incident was caught in a viral video.

There were 99 other traffic crashes reported in Hong Kong yesterday, 29 of them with injuries.
