A man who was knocked down crossing a road in Kwai Fong last Tuesday (16 February) has died from his injuries in Princess Margaret Hospital.

Mr Ng, 72, was crossing Container Port Road, near Kwai Fung Crescent, when he was struck by a taxi driven by Mr Lee, 79.

Ambulance crews took Ng to hospital, conscious but with head, hand and waist injuries. He died just after midnight on 19 February.

Police arrested taxi driver Lee for dangerous driving causing death. He is being detained for questioning.

Ng was knocked down just hours before a second fatal crash on Container Port Road last week, in which a truck driver was arrested after killing a scooter rider.

Taxis accounted for 16% of all road injuries in the first 11 months of 2020, compared with around 36% for private cars. There were 2,117 pedestrian casualties (killed or seriously injured) on the roads during that period.
