Police arrested a red minibus driver for dangerous driving causing death last night, after a fatal crash killed a 74-year-old man who was crossing the road in Mong Kok East.
According to police reports, 74-year-old Mr Wong was crossing Argyle Street near Soares Avenue at 8:55pm when he was struck by the red minibus driven by 64-year-old Mr Lai.
Wong suffered fatal head injuries and died in Kwong Wah Hospital less than an hour later.
The crash happened around 30 metres from a staggered pedestrian crossing that bridges the busy six-lane road.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Transport Department (TD) says 2,607 pedestrians were injured by vehicles in 2021, up 20% on 2020. TD has not yet released a detailed breakdown of how many pedestrians were killed or seriously injured.
Pedestrians made up 54% of fatal road crash victims in 2020, with 71% of those over 60.
