A Central-Mui Wo “Ordinary Ferry” in Central: five were injured on the ferry service last night when the ship slammed into the pier.
A Lantau commuter ferry from Central lost control while docking last night, slamming into Mui Wo pier and causing five injuries on the ferry.
Sun Ferry’s 20.00 service from Central was approaching the Mui Wo pier at around 20.40 when the incident occurred. According to police, the ship was suspected of “losing control of its right bow and crashing into the south gate of the pier while it was berthing”.
Two men and three women on board, aged from 26 to 64, suffered slight injuries to head, chin, shoulders, hands, chest or feet, say police.
The injured were taken to Mui Wo Clinic. Police have classed the incident as a “ship collision”.
The ferry involved was a so-called “ordinary ferry”, dubbed the “slow ferry” by Mui Wo residents, taking 40 minutes for the journey from Central, against 25 minutes for newer boats. Some passengers have no choice but to take the slower option, being the only Mui Wo ferry that allows pets or bicycles aboard.

Edit – the pilot/captain of the boat lost control of the ferry (the ferry does not control itself).
